FRIENDS
of EL CERRITO TREES is
seeking new members.
Membership is FREE ! just
come to a meeting or contact us to get involved. We have several issues
to work on in order to make El Cerrito the enviromentally friendly and
green place we would like it to be. We
are currently collaborating with the City on a number of issues regarding
trees and vegetation on the city streets and parks. Moreover, we are applying
for grants to plant trees and do outreach and education. Currently, the
City of El Cerrito spends approximately $100,000 annually on pruning and
removing trees and ZERO dollars on tree planting. We are hoping to allieviate
this imbalance by appealing to the City Council and other city officials
with an Urban Forest Plan. Please see our goals below and if you can,
attend our meetings or contact us to be on our email list. Thanks!
General
Goals:
- Help
raise
public awareness about the values of trees, through educational and
outreach efforts;
- Help protect and
preserve trees in public and private property in El Cerrito, and discourage
the removal of healthy trees.
- Encourage and assist in the maintenance and planting of trees and
other vegetation;
- Support broader
environmental conservation and stewardship efforts in El Cerrito.
